LEADING country club Goulburn says moving Gosford Gold Cup to a spring date has hijacked its highly successful cup day.

Goulburn secretary Greg Wilson was upset that Gosford has followed his club's lead by moving its cup to date between the Hawkesbury Cup and Canberra Cup in November.

"We moved our race to fit in with the Hawkesbury and Canberra cups (last) year and promoted the races together," Wilson said. "They have come along, put their race in the same week as ours, and they're acting if it was their idea.

"The only good thing I can see about (the clash) is that they cater for different horses because our cup is 1600m and theirs is 2100m. The day is only going to get bigger and that's why we are disappointed, we have to compete with Gosford for horses in 2009."
