BARELY 36 hours since it was presented, the 2008 premiership cup is already widely travelled.
It made a lap with the Hawthorn players at the MCG on Saturday night, then was presented with them to fans in Federation Square. Then, acting on a moment of inspiration, coach Alistair Clarkson and chief executive Ian Robson jumped in a taxi and took it to the suburban home of Jason Dunstall, 1254-goal Hawk hero and now board member who, while acting as chief executive in 2004, had masterminded the visionary appointment of Clarkson.Dunstall, reclusive by nature, had watched the grand final at home.Later the cup returned to the city, for more festivities at the Hawthorn celebration dinner at the casino.Yesterday the Holy Grail was on show again at Glenferrie Oval. This morning, Clarkson, Robson and three players will fly with it to Hobart for a presentation there, then on by helicopter to meet the rest of the Hawthorn team at Aurora Stadium at Launceston, where the Hawks play some home games.Home tonight, the cup will need a drink. -- GREG BAUM
