TODAY Tonight presenter Matthew White will celebrate a decade at Flemington today when he helps present the Melbourne Cup for Prime.

Prime's television coverage kicks off at 10am and continues until 5.30pm with the main race at about 3pm.

The former NEW FM radio announcer and one-time NBN sports reporter in Newcastle has extensive experience as a sports reporter, attending the Athens and Beijing Olympics as well as covering such as Australian Open tennis and V8 Supercars.

However, the Cup carnival has a special place in White's sporting calendar each year.

"I get so excited about the Cup Carnival. I love being in the thick of it. I've been working at Flemington for about 10 years and it just gets better and better," White says.

White's first winning Cup bet was on Subzero in 1992.
